Information
The small bay of Crooklets is due north of Summerleaze and adjoins it at low tide. The bay is formed by the rocks of Wrangle Point to the north and outcrops of rocks to the south. Summerleaze is a sandy beach surrounded by dunes on one side and a canal on the other.

There is lifeguard cover from May to September, between 10am and 6pm. There is also first aid, emergency telephones and radio. Safe areas are defined by flag systems and safe bathing times are shown on a blackboard at the beach entrance. There is also a tannoy system to warn and advise. Strong rips can develop around low tide.

Dogs are allowed on the beach, with dog bins provided.

There are Cafés, restaurants, a slipway, and toilets with disabled access.

The beach is popular with holidaymakers and all the water activities are zoned.

There are rock pools and cliff and canal walks from the beaches with local nature reserves nearby. The beach is on the South West Coastal Path.

Bude itself is a lively 'surfy' town with plenty of pubs, clubs, shops and surf shops. The annual Bude festival is the 3rd Saturday in August and the Bude Jazz Festival is on the August Bank Holiday.

As far as Forces-of-Nature sports go, Crooklets is popular with surfers. It starts to work best just before low tide and then on the push through to high tide. S-SE winds are offshore and can produce some good clean waves and can hold waves up to about 8 ft. At high tide a shore break forms which can also be surfed. It can become crowded though.
